Fun in the Web June 28 2016 New Meetup Group

Have you heard of Meetup? It's an online way to organize events with people you are acquainted with or are new friends waiting to meet you. Most groups have a common interest.  http://www.meetup.com/

The group I was and still am a co-organizer for is simply arranged by geography and age (50+ although no one checks ID's so we get a few close to 50). I host dinners, walks, movies, outings to museums, classes, craft nights, and anything else I can think of at the time.

Today I started a new group http://www.meetup.com/New-and-Old-Friends-Over-50/ designed to be more inclusive. The way I described it is "This group is for mature men and women, single or attached who enjoy getting together to explore various events, music, art, theater, games, dining out, sharing our knowledge, experiences, and having some fun. Geography is not an issue.  This is a "no drama" zone.

If it sounds like fun, let's try it! Let the new memories begin. Please RSVP soon and often. We have monthly Coffee Get togethers at Cafe de Arts where you can feel free to ask questions, talk about ideas or any areas of concern. They are the 2nd Sunday of the month at 11am. We also have quarterly planning meeting you are welcome to anytime to share ideas for new Meetups.

The easiest way to track our events is to look at the calendar (on your computer) located to the left just above "Organizers". This works better than the phone app, by displaying a regular calendar showing each days events. Most of the time, we have events to choose from all around Waukesha and Milwaukee.

Hope to meet you soon! " So if you are in the Milwaukee or Waukesha area, please join us. If not start your own Meetup near you. It's a great way to meet people who have common interests.

Fun in the Web June 27 2016 Thrift Shopping

Spent the weekend running around town at thrift shops and eating out. Thrift Shopping was more successful. Dining out was hit and miss. I found lovely clothes at great prices.

Fun in the Web June 26 2016 Ripening Avocados

Always get unripened avocados because it looks like someone has figured out a clever way to ripen avocados in 10 minutes!
Here’s how to do it:
  1. Preheat your oven to 195F (90C)
  2. Completely wrap your unripe avocado in foil
  3. Place the wrapped avocado into the oven for 10 minutes
  4. Remove from the oven and enjoy!I'm trying this later today, as soon as I go get some avocados at the store.

Fun in the Web June 25 2016 Getting a New Tarot Deck

Well I guessed this one right. Had the date on it before I opened it up today. I am off to buy a Tarot Deck since I have a class in Tarot on Wednesday at the library. They have such good things at the various libraries around here. Mine has Rosetta Stone, all kinds of classes on Gale University, hands on art programs, even adult coloring which is very relaxing.

I'm thinking a Rider Waite deck and perhaps another smaller deck more the size of regular playing cards. The arthritis in my hands keeps advancing so sometimes a smaller deck would be much easier.

So I searched the web and found a site with reviews and details and of course links to sites they have affiliate membership with so they make a profit on each sale.

Fun in the Web June 20 2016 Never Thaw a Frozen Steak

Yes I know I dropped off the grid again after doing well with the bog in May, but it got too busy for me again: a new class in Grant Writing, our trade show, travel, a number of webinars on sales tax (yawn) and on different items for trade shows. Why is everyone doing webinars? They are always at least a half hour and most often an hour when 15 minutes would have conveyed the same info.

Anyway that brings me to this. Do you ever come home and realize you got nothing out of the freezer for dinner? Yep that was my dilemma the other night, which I mentioned to my co-worker and she said "make it from frozen". Well it made sense and when I looked it up, it jogged my memory. I used to do this when I lived in the house.

So here is the most unlikely place to find complete directions with pictures. BTW it turned out great...I started a potato in the microwave for six minutes and finished it in the oven, under the broiler pan to crisp it up and make it less soggy than a fully "nuked" potato (not under the broiler but on the shelf under the broiler pan), and the steak was juicy and medium rare. You even have time to get a veggie in the microwave when you stick the potato in the oven. It's a full dinner in under 20 minutes. Yum!
