For those who are not aware, the proverbial King of the Blues died last night at his home is Las Vegas. BB was internationally recognized as one of the great guitarists of all time and a consummate showman.
I had the rare privilege of seeing BB King play up close several times. First at the Riverside, where we made the second row by virtue of Sheila's handicap. They had a place for her scooter off to the side.so the seats weren't center stage but to stage right where BB always sat. It was amazing. He was already spending a good portion of the evening playing while seated but was still mobile enough now and then when "in the mood".
The second time, we also sat in the second row. That was at Summerfest (the World's Largest Music Festival held in Milwaukee during the summer with 400+ bands over a week and a half). We spent all day watching mostly blues to hold our seats until it was time for the headliner. I would get up to hit the food vendors or bring back beverages for both of us. There are so many choices for yummy food there. The long wait was way worth the day long adventure! We stayed for it all, till the last of the crowd cleared out.
BB was quite the character and I enjoyed hearing about his antics. I will continue to love his music which is well represented in my CD and MP3 collections. Here is an obituary that covers his 89 year old life and 70+ year career.
